We engaged Len to help us define business processes and implement a new ERP system while I was Interim CFO for a mid-sized technical services company that had recently been acquired by private equity partners.  This project had many challenges and complexities including:  there were no existing business processes, the staff was new with no project / systems implementation knowledge and timeline to implement was short.

I first met Len  as part of a consulting team I hired to help with my Advancement Technology Project, a project needing major business process mapping and re-engineering in order to implement a new CRM at a prominent higher education institution in Illinois.  I then worked with Len again when I needed help with a major business process mapping and re-engineering effort to prepare another higher education institution in Illinois for a change in their student ERP.  In both cases Len demonstrated a creative and innovative approach to help me deliver on these major changes in strategic direction using process re-engineering.  Len is highly intelligent, enthusiastic, and disciplined, yet he has great interpersonal awareness competencies that help distinguish him from other consultants in the market.

I met Len about seven years ago when I was VP Finance for a physicians practice and we were looking for a new Electronic Health Records (EHR) system, where we hired Len’s firm to assist us.  I also joined for a brief period the consulting firm where he worked, where we interacted on a couple of accounting system projects.  I greatly enjoyed and respected working with Len in his role as an outside consultant and as a colleague.  Len is always positive and energetic, which are necessary attributes on these challenging projects.  He had not had deep experience in medical practice EHR systems at the time we hired his firm, but he brought a methodology to identify and compare the various vendors and also to look at our business processes.  From this he helped our executive team identify the best EHR solution.

With regards to mid-market accounting systems, Len’s knowledge is amazing.  When we worked together briefly at the same consulting firm I asked for his advice on the best accounting systems to investigate for a potential client.  We went into a conference room with a wall of white boards about 5′ high and 12′ long.  Len drew a large matrix, with accounting systems listed down the rows and the functions and features across the columns.  During our meeting of approximately 2 hours Len filled in from memory this large matrix comparing vendor functionality.  Also, Len had no preference or bias towards any particular vendor, but simply wanted to help me find the best starting point for our client.

In summary, Len’s in depth knowledge of the vendors and products, and his independence, are a great combination for any client.
